About Det lille Apotek
Classical danish gastronomy
The little Pharmacy dates all the way back to 1720 and is therefore Copenhagen’s oldest restaurant. The many years of experience may be the reason why “Apoteket” is still an incredibly popular dining spot, with around 70,000 visitors from all corners of the globe.
The little Pharmacy offers classics based on old original recipes. Whether you’re into Danish open sandwiches, traditional egg cake, or a warm sole fillet with homemade remoulade, you’ve come to the right place. The menu also features wiener schnitzel, roast duck with browned potatoes, and the famous Apothecary stew.
A visit to The little Pharmacy is a journey back in time. The restaurant is divided into four separate rooms with low ceilings and oil lamps, glowing on the old paintings of forest gods and nymphs. At The little Pharmacy, you’ll find genuine Danish coziness and nostalgia.
We look forward to welcoming you!
We cherish the old values
Many things have happened over the years, including the fact that the first grilled chickens in Copenhagen were served here as “Chicken in Basket,” which was half a chicken and a handful of fries in a basket with a napkin, and a beer in the other hand. You could also always get a meter of beer here.
In the windows, you can see 4 hand-painted leaded glass windows with nymphs and forestgods. The windows are original and date back to the construction of the property in 1829, but there is no explanation as to why nymphs and gods are depicted on them.
Since our takeover in 1982, both the premises and the menu have changed character, the rooms have become more homely and some of the old tavern character has changed with bookshelves and wall lamps, furthermore, the bar that originally stood in the Peter Faber’s parlour has been replaced with small tables, and the back room has been transformed into a dining area, but all changes have been made with deep respect for the past and the history of the place.
We look forward to welcoming you
